Looking for a historical place to visit inside Dhaka during your weekend or free time? The newly opened July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at the former Ganabhaban premises in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar could be your perfect destination. It recently opened to the public, and today we are sharing all the details you need to know for our nnews BD readers.
What to Expect
The museum galleries carefully preserve memories and documents of the July 2024 mass uprising. You will find personal items used by the martyrs, documentary evidence of their sacrifices, and rare photographs. One exhibit leaving visitors deeply emotional is the letter written by martyr Ahnaf to his mother right before his death.
Outside in the open premises, symbolic graves have been built to honor the martyrs. Historic moments of the student-citizen movement are brought to life through sculptures. The sculpture of a rickshaw puller saluting and the immortal moment of martyr Mugdho distributing water are particularly catching everyone’s attention. Additionally, special documentaries and historical documents related to the BDR mutiny, the Shapla Chattar incident, and past enforced disappearances are displayed in separate exhibitions.
Visiting Hours
The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. To enter the main building, three specific time slots are allocated. To avoid overcrowding, a maximum of 300 visitors can enter per slot, which allows 900 visitors a day.
Morning Slot: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Mid-Day Slot: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Evening Slot: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Ticket and Entry Process
Tickets are priced at 50 BDT for adults and 25 BDT for children. You can book tickets online in advance. While booking on the designated website, you can choose a convenient slot. If a specific day is fully booked, you will need to reserve a spot for the next available day.
You also have the option to buy tickets directly from the museum’s counter. Just keep in mind that you must enter the main building within the specific timeframe mentioned on your ticket.
How to Get There
The museum is located just north of the National Parliament House in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. You can easily reach it from anywhere in Dhaka using buses, CNGs, or ride-sharing services.
